Suggested Spring Itinerary:
Day One: Check in and stretch your legs with a walk across the Roebling Bridge, taking in the riverscape. Spend an hour hiking at Minisink Battleground, site of a Revolutionary war battle. Dine at the Inn at Lackawaxen.

Day Two: Wake up to the ever-changing river. Birds are particularly active in the morning and it is common to see an eagle perched in our riverbank trees. Start with a cup of coffee on the porch then enjoy a leisurely breakfast, served between 8 and 10am. Choose an activity for the day:

  • Fly or spin fish the Lackawaxen River
  • Spend the day viewing area waterfalls with a self-guided hiking/driving tour
  • Take a day trip in a guided drift boat (advance reservations needed)
  • Golf at one of the nearby courses or hit a few buckets of golf balls at Costa's.
  • Starting in May: Kayak, canoe or raft the Delaware. Midweek, raft the Lackawaxen.
  • Visit Scranton. Tour an underground coal mine; See actual steam engines at Steamtown.
  • Hike Tusten Mountain Trail or go horseback riding at Triple W or Malibu Ranch.
  • Shop Antique stores in Hawley or Milford. Lunch at the Settlers Inn (Hawley) or the Waterwheel Cafe (Milford). Buy something to take back to the kids at the Firefly Toy Shop (Milford) or Barryville RiverMarket (great food gift baskets too).
  • Rainy day--go retro . . . relive the '60's at Bethel Woods Museum. In May, the museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and after that it's open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets: adults $13; seniors $11; ages 8-11 $9; ages 3-7 $4; children under 2 free.
Bet on the horses at Monticello Raceway (Mon-Thur).
  • Relax at the nearby indoor pool/spa and dine at the Vista Restaurant afterward.

Dine at Pinehurst for prime rib or salmon, Tre Alberi for homemade Northern Italian dishes, or Cuckoos Nest for sauerbraten. Have an after-dinner drink at 150 year old bar, Rohmann's in Shohola or come back to the Roebling Inn, build a campfire by the river, and watch the stars come out.
